Details of This Jewel
The 18k Rose Gold Amethyst Diamond Ring is part of Paolo Costagli’s Brillante Valentina Collection --a line of fine jewelry pieces that feature iconic Brillante-cut stones and the distinctive Valentina design which showcase the brilliance of pave diamonds through colorful gemstones. This engagement ring with amethyst has a 12mm band. The ring’s band is set with diamonds with a total weight amounting to 0.08 carats. Central to this unique amethyst ring is a 7.13-carat deep purple amethyst stone.
The Brillante Valentina Collection is Paolo’s creative approach to expanding his Brillante line --a curation of jewels which celebrates the classic Venetian motif and Art Deco era. Using the same modern engineering techniques that he employed on his Valentina Collection, he artfully showcased the beauty of diamonds through the various colors of precious gemstones. Paolo’s technique places the gemstone to float over a bed of diamonds, creating spectacular sparkle. And like in the Valentina Collection, only choice gemstones and diamonds are used in the Brillante Valentina line. The Valentina Collection first made waves in the jewelry industry and won an award in 2013 while a piece from Brillante Collection is now displayed at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City.
Deep purple in color, the amethyst was favored by the royals, particularly of the Russian empress, Catherine the Great. Amethysts can also be found in the British Crown jewels. In divinity circles, the amethyst is coveted for its protective and healing properties. Travelers and wealthy hold possession of this gem for protection and clarity of the mind. This belief can be traced back to the ancient Greeks who used to adorn their drinking goblets with amethyst to deter drunkenness and overindulgence. When buying amethyst rings, examine the stone in daylight --a deeper hue of the stone indicates higher value.
