Emerald is one of the varieties of the mineral species Beryl. Transparent and commonly highly included, in fine quality its availability is very scarce. Colors are ranging from light green to strongly yellowish to bluish green particularly in Muzo and Chivor mines found in Colombia, the most prized country of origin. A gemstone that fascinated every culture, it is said that Emperor Nero would look through an emerald to rest his eyes. Emerald have been mined in Ancient Egypt since 1500 BC and in India since the 14thcentury A.D, where Maharajas were particularly fond of its “golden green”. It is important to advice clients and their jewelers to avoid heat, steam or ultrasonic during and after the jewelry cleaning process.
